Blue is for boys, pink is for girls. Yeah?
We don’t think so. We believe that every young boy or girl should be free to colour themselves in with the biggest set of paints in the whole world. Free to play with whatever toys they want. Free to dress however they like.
We still, as adults, feel restricted by gender norms. They dictate to us the acceptable boundaries of self-expression, from which our heroes stray. But so often they stray alone, having to accept ridicule, piss-taking, disapproval, ignorance – fear breeds hate.
Hats off to the brave pioneers beyond the gender frontiers. And to ignorant onlookers – if you’re shocked by this your mind really isn’t big enough.
